Start with the last-known location
A phone dropped into a creek is a different search from one missing after a day on the sand. Describe the event, the phone model and case, and whether you saw it land.
Smartwatches and electronic car keys can also be assessed. Let Frosty know whether the item could have moved with waves or fallen from a jetty or boat.
A location signal is a clue
If you have a recent device location, share its timestamp and apparent accuracy. A last-known device signal can be useful, but it is not proof that the phone is still at that exact point. Never send your account password or access code.
An underwater phone search depends on depth, visibility, current and access. Electronic devices can sustain damage in water; locating a device does not mean it will switch on or that its data can be recovered.
Beach and creek searches
For a beach loss, describe your towel area, route to the water and closest access point. For a creek loss, mark the bank, entry point or structure you were beside, and estimate how far from it the phone fell.
